- Rhythm: A pattern that repeats itself throughout a piece.
- Directional Movement: The piece carrying your eyes in a certain direction, directed by the lines or other objects in the piece.
- Proportion / Scale: The size of the piece as a whole in relation to what's around it or in it.
- Balance: How the objects in a piece are arranged around each other.
- Unity: A piece completed by the objects in it that work together to create it.
- Harmony: Similar objects throughout the piece to give it balance.
- Contrast: Two elements in a piece that directly oppose each other.
- Emphasis (Focal Point / Center of interest): a part of a piece that draws the eye straight to it.
