Vocab#3



  • Rhythm: A pattern that repeats itself throughout a piece.


  • Directional Movement: The piece carrying your eyes in a certain direction, directed by the lines or other objects in the piece.
  • Proportion / Scale: The size of the piece as a whole in relation to what's around it or in it.
  • Balance: How the objects in a piece are arranged around each other.
  • Unity: A piece completed by the objects in it that work together to create it.
  • Harmony: Similar objects throughout the piece to give it balance.
  • Contrast: Two elements in a piece that directly oppose each other.
  • Emphasis (Focal Point / Center of interest): a part of a piece that draws the eye straight to it.
